Background of IGS Italia
The roots from IGS Italia go back to the early seventies of last century. In 1973 the company Italfilo s.a.s. was founded with the sale of welding wires as main activity. During the first half of the eighties the company started to import PSA oxygen generators from the US for welding applications. Soon afterwards the company initiated to develop and manufacture its own PSA oxygen generators in order to meet the regulations for the EC market. In 1990 the production of PSA nitrogen generators was started as well.
In November 1997 the Messer Group from Germany, one of the leading companies for industrial gases at the time, acquired the entire generator business from Italfilo s.a.s. and founded a new company called Italfilo Engineering s.r.l. This company was mainly orientated towards the sale of small and medium-sized standard PSA systems for the industrial market.
During the reorganization process of the Messer Group in 2001, Italfilo Engineering was acquired by Innovative Gas Systems, Inc. from the US. The IGS Group was created through a Management Buy-Out by the former Messer companies Generon (USA), Italfilo Engineering (Italy) and SMC Asia Gas Systems (People's Republic of China).
After the acquisition by IGS, a strong integration project was set-up in order to align all companies to a single group standard. As a result of that the Italian company started to become active in the EPC market for the Oil & Gas and Mining Industry. Subsequently the company name was changed in IGS Italia in July 2004.
IGS Italia's quality management system has been certified to ISO9001 since 2004 and to ISO13485 since 2007. Our environmental management system has been certified to ISO14001 and EMAS since 2006.
Respectively in 2004 and 2007 IGS Italia introduced its patented modular PSA nitrogen and oxygen systems, which are offered to the market under the brand names NITROSWING® and OXYSWING®. The medical version of this product has been certified as Class IIB medical device to the MDD 93/42/CEE in 2008. In 2009 the Italian Ministry of Health issued the Certificate of Free Circulation for the OXYSWING® medical oxygen generators from IGS Italia.
Currently IGS Italia is not only active in its traditional markets for standard nitrogen and oxygen generators for industrial and healthcare applications in almost all areas in the world, but especially the supply of complex custom-engineered nitrogen and oxygen plants including all necessary documentation has become a major activity during the last years. Since 2010 IGS Italia has started to supply custom-engineered packages for the generation of instrument air as well. The export quote of IGS Italia's revenues exceeded 85% in 2010.
